  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups beef stock
  • 2/3 cup red cooking wine (merlot or dark red)
  • 4 large carrots (roughly chopped)
  • 3 medium Yukon gold potatoes (cut into cubes)
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, bay leaf)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon browning sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 stalks celery (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 8 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons roast beef base paste (like Better than Bouillon)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, Worcestershire sauce, browning sauce (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper. Coat the beef cubes evenly with this mixture.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Sear the beef cubes in batches until golden brown on each side. Remove from pot and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, sauté chopped celery, onion, and minced garlic until softened. Stir in tomato paste and roast beef base paste; simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add beef stock, red wine, seared beef, and fresh herbs to the pot. Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 2 hours.
  5. After 2 hours, add cubed potatoes and carrots to the pot. Continue cooking on medium-low heat for an additional 30-45 minutes until everything is tender.
  6. Serve hot with your favorite sides.
